Newsletter, Issue 1November 1, 2026Next issue in January

A Message To Our Readers

Thank you for your inquiries and for your patience. Over the past year we have published the framework behind Nonduality-Based Therapies (NDT) and our first program, Nonduality-Based Stress Reduction (NDSR).

In the months since our book was published, about two dozen professionals have contacted us regarding pilot studies, training, and courses. Many of those inquiries have not yet received an appropriate response. This newsletter is that response.

In summary, the project is active and its core materials are complete, although progress has been slower than we anticipated. We consider it important to report this directly. The sections below describe the current status of the work, the factors that delayed it, and our plans for the coming months.

This is the first issue of our newsletter. We intend to publish roughly every other month, and more frequently when developments warrant, so that you are kept informed of our progress.

Where Things Stand

The foundation is built. The research and training stages are what remain.

A Second Modality: Nonduality-Based Cognitive Therapy

In addition to NDSR, we have been developing a second modality, Nonduality-Based Cognitive Therapy (NDCT). The content, the teacher's manual, and the scripts for version 1.0 are complete. Over the coming month we hope to record the audio, and the beta version should be online by December 31, 2026. We would welcome your feedback on it at that time.

We regard NDSR as our flagship program. Unless NDCT draws greater interest than NDSR, we expect pilot studies of NDCT to follow those of NDSR.

About The Institute

The Institute for Nonduality-Based Therapies (INT) is the body under which this work is being developed: the Nonduality-Based Therapies framework, the NDSR and NDCT programs, and the research and training that will follow from them. Its present work is carried out by Zachary A. Perlman and associates, and it does not yet hold formal nonprofit standing.

We intend to establish that standing in deliberate stages. First, we will seat a Board of Directors and form the Scientific and Clinical Advisory Circle. Once both are taking shape, we plan to apply for 501(c)(3) status as a nonprofit organization. Formal recognition would give the Institute the governance, transparency, and accountability appropriate to an educational and research body, and would allow us to work with partners and institutions on a firmer footing. We will report on each step in future issues.

Why Progress Has Taken Longer Than Anticipated

Our original plan spanned twelve months and included a pilot, an advisory circle, and a first instructor cohort. We are behind that schedule, and the reasons are ordinary.

This work is being developed alongside other professional commitments. We also chose to complete the curriculum, the audio practices, and the Instructor's Manual before enrolling anyone in a pilot, because a program that addresses stress and the sense of self warrants careful safety guidance. This required more time than anticipated. We judged it preferable to begin a pilot later and well prepared than earlier and insufficiently developed.

A pilot also depends on partners: clinicians, researchers, and participants. Your inquiries are what make that possible, and we regret the delay in responding to them.

Next Steps

Our priorities for the coming months, in order:

  1. NDCT audio. We hope to record the audio over the coming month and to have the beta version online by December 31, 2026. We invite your feedback at that time.
  2. A small pilot of NDSR. A group of roughly 8 to 12 participants, offered free or by donation, with pre and post questionnaires, participant feedback, and instructor notes. A start date has not been set. Before recruitment, we will select our measures and establish participant consent and screening procedures. Recruitment will be announced in a future issue.
  3. A Scientific And Clinical Advisory Circle. This has not formally begun. We plan to invite two to four advisors, ideally including a psychologist or psychotherapist, a researcher, and a meditation teacher with clinical experience. Those who wrote to us about this will be contacted first, and we welcome introductions.
  4. A Board Of Directors And Nonprofit Status. Once the board and the Advisory Circle are taking shape, we plan to apply for 501(c)(3) status in order to formalize the Institute's standing.
  5. A first small instructor cohort. Four to eight carefully selected participants, with readings, scripts, and supervised practice teaching. Details will follow once the pilot design is settled.
  6. A written report. Pilot results will be shared openly, including what did not succeed.

NDSR, NDCT, and NDT are educational and contemplative approaches. They are not psychotherapy, and nothing we offer replaces care from a licensed clinician. We will maintain that distinction in every program and publication.

Something To Read In The Meantime

Cover of Nonduality-Based Therapies: Clinical Principles and Emerging Modalities by Zachary A. Perlman, with calm water under a pale sky
Available in paperback, ebook, and audiobook

While the pilot and training are being prepared, the best way to explore the ideas behind this work is Zachary A. Perlman's book, Nonduality-Based Therapies: Clinical Principles and Emerging Modalities. It was published approximately one year ago and is available in several formats.

The book is the foundation for the Nonduality-Based Therapies (NDT) framework behind everything described in this issue.

Closing

Thank you for the seriousness with which you approached us, and for your patience. We believe a careful, secular approach to nondual insight has real value alongside the mindfulness-based programs that preceded it, and we intend to develop it step by step. Our next issue will appear in January, with progress on the NDCT audio, the pilot design, and the Advisory Circle.

With appreciation,

Zachary A. Perlman
